Greenhouse gases are nothing but gases present in the atmosphere that have the ability to absorb infrared radiations. These radiations are emitted from the surface of the Earth, which are trapped by these greenhouse gases . Thus, the trapped radiations cause warming in the lower atmosphere and eventually elevate the Earth’s temperature. Greenhouse gases (GHGs) are a category of gases that absorb heat energy emitted from the planet's surface and they remain in Earth's atmosphere for a long time (from decades to centuries).
