ICICI Bank cut its minimum average balance to Rs 15,000 for urban, Rs 7,500 for semi-urban, and Rs 2,500 for rural areas after backlash. HDFC Bank clarified that there will be no change in their Average Monthly Balance requirement. According to the bank, the AMB for the regular savings account continues to be Rs 10,000. The AMB for the Savings max account remains at Rs 25,000. HDFC Bank has surprised customers by increasing the minimum balance requirement for savings accounts, similar to ICICI Bank’s recent move. From 1 August 2025, new savings account holders in metro and urban areas will need to maintain Rs 25,000 instead of the earlier Rs 10,000. False news spread on social media Recently, some posts on social media claimed that HDFC Bank has also changed the minimum balance rules like ICICI Bank. To put an end to these rumors, the bank issued an official statement and said that customers need not worry.
