Police Ranks in India consist of ranks of four different levels, namely constable, upper sub-inspector, SPS and IPS. Check details here. In India, the candidates aspire to become a part of the Police force and get a 2- star or 3 - star rank in the police force. Ranks in Police force in India differ from state to state and sometimes even within a state. To become a UP Police Head Constable, the candidate must have served as a constable for at least 8 years, or have served in the army for at least 5 years. They must also have passed the departmental exam for promotion to the rank of Head Constable. In most state police forces, ranks below Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) are considered subordinates, while DSP and above are supervisory ranks .
