Summary: The Environment Protection Act (EPA) of 1986 is a cornerstone of India’s environmental governance, enacted in response to the Bhopal gas tragedy. Its objectives include environmental protection , prevention of harm to living beings and property, and integration of central and state efforts. An Act to provide for the protection and improvement of environment and for matters connected therewith in India. It covers the definition, causes, standards, control and remedies of environmental pollution and the powers and functions of the Central Government and its authorities.
