If you're shopping for a TV in 2025, chances are you're facing a very difficult battle: QLED vs OLED. But what do these terms actually mean, and more importantly, how can you use this information to make the right buying decision? While OLED offers self-lit pixels, QLED uses a quantum dot filter with an LED backlight. Both technologies provide 4K or higher resolutions but differ significantly in contrast, brightness, durability, and pricing. What's the difference between OLED and QLED TVs? Brightness level, picture quality, and price are just a few factors in deciding why you should buy one over the other. In an OLED TV, each pixel is powered by its own organic LED. The light source for each individual pixel (organic LED) is embedded directly behind that particular pixel, therefore an OLED TV doesn’t need a separate backlight, unlike a traditional LED or a QLED TV.
