The initiative promotes inclusive urban development by offering financial assistance, subsidies, and support for home construction, enhancement, or acquisition. What is PMAY-U 2.0? Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana -Urban 2.0 ( PMAY -U 2.0) aims to provide Central Assistance to eligible families/beneficiaries through States/UTs/PLIs to construct, purchase or rent affordable houses in urban areas. To fill the gaps in previous rural housing plans and to fulfil the government’s promise of “Housing for All” by 2022, the Indira Awaas Yojana was revamped into Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G). The Prime Minister launched this on November 20, 2016, with a goal to build 2.95 Crore houses by 2022.
